Foundations of the future laid
Mona Vale Hospital continued its reconfiguration during 2019, with the exciting newworks offering a glimpse into the site’s future. The first concrete pour for the inpatient Geriatric Evaluation Management (GEM) and inpatient Palliative Care Unit took place in late October, while the new Support Services Building has been operating since June.
Mona Vale Hospital General Manager Jacqui Edgley said it was exciting to see the works progress. “It’s been a very exciting year at Mona Vale, with the transformation of our campus well and truly underway,” she said. “Staff have settled into the Support Services Building and are enjoying the new amenities, which is always nice to see, while the Palliative Care and Geriatric Evaluation and Management Unit works are underway, with excavation works and the first concrete pour complete.”
“Now that the first major pour for the ground floor is in, we will really start to see the new building take shape. “This building will be a valuable addition to our campus, supporting the needs of the Northern Beaches community.” The design for the 10 bed palliative care service and 10 bed Geriatric Evaluation and Management Unit will take advantage of the peaceful coastal location, allowing for a comfortable setting for patients. The unit is due for completion in 2020.
