4. To be born of a virgin, Isa. 7:14. 5. In Bethlehem, Micah 5:2. 6. Th at He was to be rejected, to suffer and die (this death to be by crucifixion, Psa. 2 2 : 1 6) Isa. 5 3 :; Dan. 9:26. And t h at this was to t a ke place be- f o re the destruction of t h e Temjple, Dan. 9:26. According to this, the Mes- siah mu st already have come. Now t h e re are many earnest Jews who are still looking for their Messiah, a K i ng who is to come in Glory and re- store the Kingdom to Israel. To these we mu st be able to show t h at thero a r e two distinct lines of Prophecy; t h at t he second line is still to be fulfilled in His Second Coming. A common ground on which the pious Jew and ear- nest Christian stand. But according to God's Word He must have first eome to deal with sin, and so when they look upon the One who comes to de- liver and save t h em f r om the nations it will be the One whom they have pierced. Zech. 14.4; 12:10-14. Also point out that in the First Coming He not only fulfills prophecy but type; how the sacrifices point to the "Lamb slain before the foundation o f » t he world." Remind them of the fact t h at they now have no sacrifice and point t h em to Ezek. 18:4 Lev. 1 7 : 1 1; Heb. 9:22. Hence J o hn pointing to Jesus said, "Behold the L amb of God which t a k e th away the sin of t he world." Jno. 1 : 2 9; and Jesus Himself said, "I am the Wa y ,— no man cometh unto the F a t h er b ut by me ." Jno. 14:6. Wh en you have taken an Israelite this f ar and have met his objections, some of which we t a ke up later, it will now be well to suggest that he consider t he claims of Jesus, giving him a New Testament. Third, to be able to meet some of their most common objections: t . You will be asked, "Did God h a ve a wife?"' r e f e r r i ng to the virgin b i r th of Christ. We have already given prophecy concerning this fact. It will be well to speak of the fact t h at t h e Crod of Israel is a miracle-working God. A good illustration is given in the b i r th of Isaac. Note what God says t o Sarah in Gen. 18:14. Note same ex- pression used in the angel's announce- me nt to Mary, L " k e 1.37. Be sure to r e ad Lu ke 1:26-32, Matt. 1:18-25. They probably have never read the real ac-

count of should show them t h at Jesus was not born by ordinary generation. 2. Another common objection is t h at the Christians in their worship of Jesus, worship a Man, a t h i ng which no t r ue Jew can do. To this we answer, " J e s us is God, God manifest in the flesh. When we worship H im we do not wor- ship a n o t h er God, but the God of Abra- h am, Isaac and Jacob. It was not a new t h i ng for God to appear in t he form of a man. He did this of old and was worshipped in t h at f o r m ." In Gen- esis the 18th chapter we find t h at t h r ee men appeared before the Lord. Then in Gen. 1 9 :1 w e ' a r e told t h at the two arrived at Sodom. Reading this whole chapter you will see very clearly t h at one of the t h r ee was Jehovah mani- fested in the form of a man. Now in Josh. 5:13-15 we see this man again, J o s h ua falling on his face in worship. See also Gen. 32:24-30; J u d g es 13: 15-22. 3. Another is t h at the Christian has three Gods, while the Jew can worship only one God, often quoting Deut. 6:4. To this we reply, "We worship but one God, who manifests Himself to us in t h r ee Persons." This teaching is not confined to the New Te s t ame nt but is made very clear in the Old. The Old Te s t ame nt word used for God is plural in f o rm—E l o h i m. God also uses plural pronouns in speaking of Himself. Gen. 1 : 2 4; Gen. 11:7. In Isa. 48:12, 16 and Isa.. 63.7-10 we see t he three Per- sons of the Trinity brought out very clearly. Though t h e re are many other objec- tions these are the most common and difficult. F o u r t h, a knowledge of the People, their customs and traditions. This knowledge can best be gained by a study of the Wo rd itself, and by acquaintance with the people. Ask God to put a love in your h e a rt for the people, for with- out this you can do nothing. Do not be discouraged, ask God for patience, for it takes a great deal. Rememb er it is not easy for a Jew to confess Christ even a f t er he sees the t r u t h. It often costs him home, family, and position. In dealing with Jews, you will need to spend mu ch time in prayer. Let your confidence.be in God. Read Psa. 1 2 2 : 6; Gen. 12:3. Jesus' birth. This
