of individual spaces, using a combination of ceiling-mounted Zehnder Carboline and radiant heating panels, and low surface temperature Maxi and Runtal radiators from Versatile. This combination provided effective and comfortable heat distribution, while meeting the specific requirements of classrooms, circulation areas and other occupied spaces. Ventilation & indoor air quality Mechanical ventilation formed a significant part of the overall scope, with heat recovery ventilation units from Versatile installed throughout the classrooms and SEN areas. The heat recovery systems provide a continuous supply of fresh, filtered air while extracting stale air from occupied spaces. Energy from the extracted air is recovered and transferred to the incoming fresh air, reducing unnecessary heat loss and supporting the overall energy efficiency of the building. With indoor air quality an increasingly important consideration within educational environments, the ventilation strategy was designed to provide students and staff with a comfortable and healthy learning environment both now and into the future.
extended to a complete installation of domestic water services and sanitary ware throughout the schools. Particular attention was given to system hygiene, temperature control, accessibility and the robust requirements associated with a busy educational environment. Kronoterm ASHPs, supplied by Glenergy, provide hot water throughout the schools, with Kerrigan Mechanical also installing a grey water system which consisted of a CubicM3 rainwater harvesting tank. A future-focused mechanical installation The completed mechanical installation provides the schools with a modern, integrated and energy-conscious building services solution, delivering an environment focused on energy efficiency, occupant comfort, indoor air quality and long-term operational performance. The fully coordinated mechanical systems provide the school with reliable heating, ventilation, cooling and hot water services, while the intelligent controls strategy ensures that the building’s plant works together efficiently and effectively. Dan O’Shaughnessy, Project Manager, says, “Kerrigan Mechanical is delighted to have successfully completed both new schools to the highest standard, ensuring
their timely handover in advance of the new school term. “This project represents a strong addition to our portfolio of complex building- services projects, demonstrating the company’s capability to deliver large- scale mechanical installations within the education sector. The simultaneous delivery of two new school buildings required coordination of multiple mechanical disciplines, specialist suppliers, commissioning teams and the wider construction team. “For Kerrigan Mechanical, the project demonstrates its ability to take a major mechanical package from installation through testing, commissioning and final handover, while delivering modern, energy-conscious building-services systems for a significant public education development.”
