Andrew Morgan’s reflections from our JUNE 2022 auction

The Summer rolls on… The prospect of a cooling drink in the open following the excitement of the June auction which, for technical reasons has to take place in the stifling atmosphere of our auction headquarters, kept me going during the inevitable adrenaline rush of yet another highly successful auction. In fact the auction catalogue was so popular that a record

number of properties were sold prior to the evening (our clients having received offers they felt they could not refuse) and I was very nearly deprived me of a job as auctioneer! However, the evening was hot, the adrenalin flowed, there was the prospect of the pre-ordered glass of cool wine and, most importantly, I had the comfort of having already exchanged contracts on over a dozen properties so it was a very happy situation to start the evening. The first Lot of the evening was in Ridgeway Road, Long Ashton. A great feeling of nostalgia overwhelmed me as I remember my uncle and aunt lived in this road and we used to regularly visit them. My mother spoke to her sister in law and my father and his brother would go to “The Bird in Hand” for a brotherly chat and I would play with my cousin. She had the most marvellous toy farm which I really coveted. I was convinced I would be a farmer in later life before the realities of that existence set in ! Now I find myself selling properties in Ridgeway Road instead and what an exciting pleasure this has proved to be. Long Ashton has the unique advantage of being closer to the city centre than most suburbs yet its separation from the city by the beautiful Ashton Court, gives it a lovely quasi countryfied village atmosphere. Ridgeway road, of course has the added advantage of panoramic views to the green heights of the Dundry Hills. With a house requiring modernisation and set in a large plot it was no wonder that the opportunity to create a million pound home created so much interest. With a price guide of £475,000 the bidding very quickly ascended to £584,000 before the gavel fell to a very happy buyer. The remaining Lots were as usual spread all over the region from Frome to Weston-super- Mare, Gloucestershire and, of course around the city. With well over £7m of property sold I did enjoy that glass of Chardonnay and looking forward to a repeat performance on 27 th July. Andrew Morgan MBE . AUCTIONEER
