City of fjords and nature

The Norwegian capital is located on the coast of the Oslofjord inlet and is surrounded by forests and hills. Founded in the 11 th century, Oslo has been the centre of Norwegian politics, trade and culture throughout the centuries. It today combi- nes urban life with direct access to nature, whi- ch is particularly noticeable during winter. Christmas market Spikersuppa is home to the main Christmas market in Oslo city centre, complete with an ice rink, food stalls and handicraft items. He- re visitors can try Norwegian specialities, hot chocolate and cakes while enjoying the festive atmosphere. Cultural stops The Munch Museum and Viking Ship Museum offer art and history in closed spaces, while the Oslo Opera House is a popular place to stro- ll and take in panoramic views of the fjord. The Vigeland Park, with its more than 200 sculptu- res, is particularly impressive under snow cover.

Nature and excursions Take the city’s metro or catch a bus to quickly reach forest trails and hills where it’s possible to engage in activities like sleigh riding or winter running. Holmenkollen, which is famous for its ski jump, offers panoramic views of Oslo and its fjord. Winter atmosphere The Grünerløkka neighbourhood and city cen- tre offer cafés, galleries and shops, while the streets are illuminated with Christmas lights and decorations. Oslo combines an urban rhythm, cultural attractions and natural lands- capes, which create an authentic experience in December.
