A t the beginning of 1962, as parts of the Afri- can continent were undergoing profound geo- political transformations and emerging from the era of colonial rule, a group of travellers embarked on a months-long journey through Egypt, Sudan, Ethiopia, Somalia, Kenya and Tanganyika. The expedition, enti- tled The Caravan of Friendship and led by Tibor Sekelj, was born out of a belief that encounters between peo- ple can create spaces of understanding.
The exhibition “Recording Africa: The Travel Lens of the Caravan of Friendship” at the Museum of African Art in Belgrade (until 13 th April, 2026) opens this journey through the eyes of Film News cameraman Branko Mar- janović, a member of the expedition whose photo album today stands as both document and personal diary—a testimony to an era, but also an invitation to read the echoes of his explorations through landscapes yet to be unexplored by his lens. Carefully created, Branko’s pho- to album, which was exclusively a family memento for decades, has today become part of a kind of memory cabinet: an archive in which public and personal histo- ry, professional testimony and the intimate need to re- cord and preserve are interwoven. T he New Year in Belgrade begins at Kalemegdan Park on 27 th December, when the third edition of the 5.5 km Resolution Run will be held – representing a joyous combination of rec- reation, togetherness and humanity. Participants can run, walk or try Nordic walking through the magical atmosphere of the Belgrade Fortress, while a special ambience is created by the festive energy and lights of the city. Part of the funds generated by registration fees is intended for the “Heart on the Sava” campaign, which is dedicat- ed to the survival of the only university rowing club in Serbia – be- cause the most beautiful new beginning is one that also includes a good deed.
