Interview

Taylor Sheridan wrote the entire season two of Landman, in which you now have a bigger role. What would you say is his greatest talent? - He’s an incredible writer who has an ability to bring complex characters to life; characters who live outside classi- cal social norms. His balance between substance and fun is unbelievable. I’m a big fan of the way he writes female characters, such as in the miniseries

fort zone artistically, and with all that I hope that the people who help me de- velop as a person and an artist will be around me. This is a whole new world for me now, a completely new approach to my work, and I’ve honestly never previously worked on a project without knowing exactly how it will end, which I believe isn’t a pleasant feeling for most of us. But, then again, that’s the won- derful balance of unpredictable situa- tions that happen in life that, at this age, I enjoy. I must admit that you did a great job with the Texas accent in Landman... - Really? It was good? If nothing else, it added to the character’s sex appeal. - (laughter) Well, thank you from the bottom of my heart! (in Texan English) In a certain way, we can draw a parallel between you and the character of Cami that you portray in the series. How much did your personal life experiences help you construct her? - You know, Cami faces a situation that I’ve fortunately never had to face, which is life after the loss of a partner you love; a partner who forms the very basis of your existence. However, on the oth- er hand, I’ve found myself in lots of sit- uations in which both she and I were underestimated, because Cami finds herself in situations where she’s au- tomatically misjudged as the wealthy widow of the company’s owner... That’s what I wanted to say… For Striptease back in the ‘90s, for example, you received an incredible $12.5 million, while you now also have a Golden Globe, so even today it seems as though you need to prove yourself... - It’s an interesting expression – “to prove yourself to someone”. I perhaps felt a need to prove something when I was younger, but, honestly, it was al- ways more about proving myself to me than to others. Like Cami, I also have great strength and tenacity, espe- cially when I need to dive into a new challenge, regardless of the obstacles brought by that challenge.

1883, in which the story is told from the perspective of a young woman. On the flip side, he’s such a good writ- er that he actually succeeds in com- pelling you to come to love characters who are sometimes just “wrong”, but in such a “good” way. And still, all his projects include ample satire, humour and fun. You’ve portrayed many strong female characters. What attracted you to playing women who are on the edge of control and vulnerability? - Control is something we do to avoid vulnerability. And vulnerability, on the other hand, is one of the biggest factors in human bonding, which is something familiar and identifiable to all of us. And when we see that, for example, in the characters we inter- pret, we gain the confidence to draw that out of ourselves and show it. Let’s shift to questions that are perhaps easier and lighter. How does it sound to you that, as of next year, people will be able to walk over your name – only physically, of course – on the Hollywood Walk of Fame? - (Through laughter) I’m very excited. I’ve never given it too much thought, because at one point I thought that was that, but life often astounds us. It seems as though the universe had some other plans for me, and that’s how The Substance came about, after which other doors opened, like Land- man. This period of life is very ex- citing for me, because even familiar things seem new, and I’m also having lots of fun doing them. To conclude, this issue of Elevate will slowly lead us into the New Year. Would you like to wish for something for all our readers around the world? - I wish for everyone to have that which is most important: health and happiness. But I also wish for peo- ple to find within themselves the courage to realise their dreams and to travel a lot, including internally, among other places. Happy 2026 to all of us!
