Walk in, dance out I magine you could step into the song, said Benny Anderson at the 2013 opening of the AB- BA Museum. And, indeed, this Stockholm museum isn’t a clas- sical space, but rather a time machine set to the rhythm of the song Dancing Queen.
ABBA, to sing in the famous Polar Stu- dio or to test their ABBA trivia. The museum presents the story of the lives of Bjorn, Benny, Anni-Frid and Ag- netha from the very beginning, when they were just children. What was their life like growing up? When did music enter their lives? How did they meet and come together to form a band? Here you can explore accurate repli- cas of the places where they lived and worked, their personal belongings and other memorabilia. But that’s just the beginning! The exhibition allows visitors to sing, play quizzes, mix original music and be- come a fifth member of ABBA, perform- ing on the big hologram stage alongside the famous foursome. And afterwards you’ll be sent a recording of your perfor- mance, which represents a great keep- sake from the museum, ABBA and Stockholm itself.

ABBA entered the Swedish Eurovision Song Contest in 1974 with the song Wa- terloo, which secured the band’s spot at the Eurovision final that was held in Brighton, England. That fateful evening of 6 th April 1974 became the most fa- mous moment in the band’s history; the moment that propelled them straight into the ranks of musical legends. They last year commemorated the 50 th anni- versary of that win at their own muse- um, which is far from an ordinary estab- lishment. That’s because it doesn’t just present original stage costumes, gold re- cords and many other wonderful items and memories, rather it enables visitors to feel what it’s like to be on stage with
ABBA was founded by Agnetha, Björn, Benny and Anni-Frid in 1972, and the band became world famous just two years later by winning the Eurovision Song Contest. Ever since, Sweden has no longer been known as just a coun- try of fjords, but as the home of a glob- al music brand.
