MODA / FASHION
T he festive season has al- ways been a time of spectacle: an opportu- nity to shine, to stand out from the crowd and wholeheartedly enjoy moments that are rarely on offer over the rest of the year. Party style is no longer just about sparkling – it’s woven into a story, individuality and confidence, with outfits that remain in the memo- ry, and not just on Instagram. Seasonal fashion has this year rejected the discreet luxury of previous years and turned up in its boldest, most so- phisticated form. This is theatricali- ty with a supermodel attitude, camp with the self-confidence of a mov- ie diva, flamboyance with the provoc- ative wink of an it girl from TikTok. Designers like Valentino’s Alessan- dro Michele and Louis Vuitton’s Nicolas Ghesquière have been play- ing with grandiose silhouettes, struc- tured forms and unexpected textures, and in so doing have created a visual language that’s both impressive and wearable. The days when an evening dress was simply red or black are long gone; today it is tailoring and move- ment that dictate the celebratory qual- ities of a piece. A velvet blazer with discreet embroidery can be as elegant as a tulle skirt, while lamé and metal- lic thread achieve sophisticated lumi- nosity without kitsch. Red hasn’t disappeared, but it has ma- tured. Intense, deep — scarlet, blood red, ruby — combined with modern tailoring, statement sleeves or asym- metric details, it becomes refined and not restrained. Green remains pop- ular, but now comes in tones of fab- ulous gemstones, often contrasted with unexpected details: translu- cent panels, lurex fabric or sculptur- al pleats. Designers are also experi- menting with winter whites, shades of icy blue and champagne mother- Ah, the holidays. That unique time when nostalgia, overemphasis and a touch of kitsch render clothes irresistible and ensure every outing is a potential movie scene event
