Good evening and welcome Parents, Family, Friends, and Supporters of the 40th Annual Les Belles Perles Debutante Cotillion. It is my honor to bring you greetings on behalf of the members of the Akron Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated. Due to the pandemic, we have not held our full - scale cotillion since February 9, 2019. We are excited to see the return of our signature event. It has been a pleasure to work with these young ladies for the past seven months. Thank you for joining us as we introduce our 15 "Beautiful Pearls." Each one is truly unique and precious to us. The 2024 Debutante Class is comprised of Debutantes who are Senior class officers, play instruments including the piano, violin, and trumpet. They have placed in oratorical competitions. Our Debutantes have earned recognition for their athletic prowess which includes track and field, swimming, soccer, basketball, volleyball, gymnastics, martial arts, karate and cheerleading. Their activities include praise dancing and Spanish Club. They have a variety of interests that include coding, baking, drawing, sign language, dancing, and involvement at their church. They also belong to a variety of organizations such as the National Honor Society, Black Student Union, Girl Scouts, Student Ambassadors, peer mentoring, DECA, Akron Branch NAACP Youth Council, Educational Talent Search, Upward Bound, Young Scholars Program, 3.0 Club, Honor Roll, and Dean's List. Their post - secondary plans include majoring in fields such as computer science, dance, nursing, criminal justice, psychology, and pre - med. At the end of this school year, three will graduate with an Associates Degree from the University of Akron. This class has also echoed our chap- ter's desire to elevate our impact by providing over 130 hours of public service within the Ak- ron community. This evening is the culmination of our cotillion experience for our 2024 Les Belles Perles Debutantes. They have engaged in a variety of opportunities to prepare them for life post high school graduation. It has truly been a transformational process, one that would not have been possible without a special village of individuals who have given of their time and talent to help ensure this cotillion experience is a memorable one. A special thank you is extended to the members of the Akron Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, our cotillion chairpersons, Lori Al Amin, Carolyn Brown, and Shayla Brown - Dandridge, the Cotillion leadership team, escorts, parents, guardians, relatives, friends, teachers, counselors, principals, and community for the role you played in getting us to this special moment. This event would not have been possible without your support and guidance. Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, is a private, not - for - profit organization whose purpose is to provide assistance and support through established programs in local communities throughout the world. We are pleased to share that since 1982, our Les Belles Perles Debutante Cotillion has awarded more than $400,000 in awards which have been used towards the post - secondary needs of our Debutantes. Congratulations to our 2024 Les Belles Perles Debutante Class! We extend our best wishes as you leave this place and go forth to do great things.
Sincerely,
Mary B. Outley President Akron Alumnae Chapter Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated
