Debutante Miss Malaya Renee’ Young
M alaya Renee’ Young is the daughter of Mrs. Katona Young and Mr. Ivan Young. Malaya attends St. Vincent-St. Mary High School. Malaya is an Honor Roll student and a three sport varsity athlete (basketball, track and volleyball). She serves as a mentor group leader, student ambassador, black student union member, and is on the 4.0+ club. Her community involvement includes assisting youth with the West Akron Track Organization and the Haven of Rest. Malaya enjoys running track, playing basketball and volleyball, spending time with her friends, drawing and tattooing. When asked why she wanted to become a debutante, she replied, "I want to meet new individuals outside of my network and to develop proper etiquette.“ In letters of recommendation, Malaya is described as an excellent student-athlete. Her positive attitude is infectious. She is self-disciplined, focused on her personal goals, and consistently works to her potential. She exemplifies the attributes of an ideal St.Vincent- St. Mary student. Upon graduation, Malaya plans to attend Texas Southern University and study forensic pathology or psychology.
