High School Readiness Grade 8

Students in 8th grade are faced with a complex challenge: apply - ing to high school in a city that has over 400 of them. Whereas most American 13 year olds go on to their local, zoned high schools, New York City’s 8th graders get to choose from an extraordinary array of options: from Performing/Visual Arts schools to Specialized High Schools to Screened High Schools to Career - Technical Education High Schools and more. When we add in religious and private school options, the range of schools gets even bigger. With a tight deadline of December 1 for the 2022 public high school admissions cycle, 8th graders and guidance counselors are under pressure to complete the admissions process in a timely fashion. Given that the choice of high school is one of the most impor - tant decisions in a person’s life --- easily, as important as where one goes to college --- students need all the help they can get in finding the perfect set of schools and applying successfully to them. The 8th Grade High School Readiness program is designed to provide that extra layer of support.
