2015-16 Awards

PowerHousing Award for Common Ground/ Santos Partnership Common Ground Adelaide, in collaboration with Santos, Common Ground’s foundation sponsor, was recognised at the 2016 PowerHousing Awards, winning the Business Partner of the Year category. The award highlights Common Ground Adelaide’s achievements, which included: •• funding for more than 150 homes across six sites in the city and in Port Augusta •• a 95 per cent increase in the number of supported residents who are now maintaining stable housing •• the delivery of community development activities •• funding programs, such as art groups and training to equip residents with the skills they need to improve their lives and gain employment •• infrastructure improvements and renovations to maintain residents’ homes and shared spaces to a high quality •• the delivery of events in Adelaide and Port Augusta to engage the community and increase awareness about homelessness. Santos has been at the heart of Common Ground’s success in helping South Australians into safe, affordable and stable rental housing. The company and staff have been genuinely committed to helping people who are disadvantaged, with Santos staff at all levels giving their time to a range of volunteering and in-kind support initiatives.

Berry Awards Created in 2015 by Housing Choices Australia and the Australian Housing and Urban Research Institute, the Professor Mike Berry Award for Excellence in Housing Research honours the outstanding contribution made by Professor Berry to the affordable housing sector in Australia. The award is presented at the annual Australasian Housing Researchers’ Conference, with the winner receiving an engraved award and $1,000. The winner of the 2016 award was Professor Kath Hulse of Swinburne University for her paper ‘Renting in a home owning society: Disaster, Deviance or Diversity?’.
