Oliver Brettle (78-87), Partner at international law firm White & Case LLP, hosted a gathering of the OAs in the Law professional interest group at his firm’s offices in April 2014. Peter Susman QC (53-61) was guest speaker and a copy of the guest list can be found on page 45. Stephen Browett (69-77), Co-chairman of Crystal Palace Football Club and Chairman of Farr Vintners, hosted eight OAs at Selhurst Park on Saturday 13 December 2014 for pre-match drinks. The group was also able to meet Steve Coppell, formerly of Manchester United and England and, on four separate occasions, Crystal Palace manager; and Jim Cannon, who played for the Club a record 663 times. The match itself, against Stoke City, ended in a 1-1 draw. Philip Bull (64-73), a consultant rheumatologist who trained at St Thomas’ Hospital medical school, retired from the NHS in the summer of 2014 having worked at the William Harvey Hospital in Ashford, Kent, since 1990. Philip is married to Julia and they have three children. Philip remains in contact with a number of school friends, with whom he has made music for many years in a cover band called Private Practice. Pat Brown (45-53) reports that half a dozen members of Modern 6A (1952) meet two to three times a year at the City Universities Club in Cornhill. Jack Carter (01-08) and Mark Gleeson (01-08) were part of a four man crew that competed in the 2015 New Ocean Wave Great Pacific Race to raise money and awareness for ‘NOMAN is an Island’, a charity dedicated to the eradication of all forms of cancer related to human papillomavirus (HPV). Their crew finished third, completing the row from Monterey, California, to Waikiki, Hawaii, in 48 days, one hour and 28 minutes. Marco Alessi (03-12) and his fellow members of Oxford’s renowned acappella group, Out of the Blue , released a cover of Shakira’s Hips Don’t Lie in August 2014 in aid of Helen & Douglas House, a hospice in Oxford that provides hospice care for children and young adults. The group’s charitable efforts received press coverage around the world, with Shakira stating her own support for their efforts on Twitter. Chris Baugh (99-06) was victorious in his professional boxing debut in January 2015. Chris, nicknamed ‘The Bull’, took up boxing during his first year of studying at London School of Economics. In March 2014 Sir Peter Bazalgette (62-71), Chair of Arts Council England, and Jeremy Deller (77-84), 2004 Turner Prize winner, took part in Dulwich Picture Gallery’s ART NOW panel discussion, an event organised in celebration of the Friends of Dulwich Picture Gallery’s 60th anniversary. Sir Peter spoke at the first meeting of the OAs in Arts and Media professional interest group in May 2014, hosted by Michael Kennard (61-68) at the Concert Artistes’ Association, and assumed the Presidency of the Canon Carver Society in November – see page 34 for details. Amit Bhola (95-00), who joined the Alleyn Club committee in October 2014, married his fiancée, Nisha, in the Old Library on Saturday 14 February 2015. William Boss (81-86) was elected Managing Partner (Europe, Middle East & Africa) of global law firm King & Wood Mallesons SJ Berwin. William has been a partner within SJ Berwin’s real estate practice for many years and was appointed Joint Head of UK Real Estate in November 2013, when the firm merged with Asian law
