Alleyn Club Newsletter 2015

Clubs & Societies

Looking back at the year we enjoyed, in the main, good weather. This is critical as we shoot in the open and are subject to all that nature can throw at us. Attendance has been a problem and we have had to throw under strength teams into competitions. In the Public Schools Veterans Match we fielded a team of four as opposed to five, so our scores did not feature so well in the final result. In our annual shoot against the Old Wellingtonians we were not successful. Their continued strength does, however, show how a school that encourages a sport will continue to produce a flow of new talent and strength for the old boys’ club.

Internally, the Club trophies were awarded as follows:

The Stringer Cup (for the highest score in the Public Schools Veterans Match)

David Nicholson (59-67)

Club Champion

Kit Sturges (52-59)

Club handicap Champion

David Nicholson

Highest average through the season

Neil Blaydon (56-62)

The Club is looking for new players to restart the playing of competitive fixtures. I should, therefore, be very interested to hear from any and all OAs who are interested in pursuing competitive or social play under the Dulwich College/OA banner.

Is Owen Simmons of the Old Albanians explaining to Kit Sturges (52-59) how his last shot was deflected by the wind?

Our end of year shoot against the Old Albanians ended with a win for the Old Albanians and they are near to reaching parity with us in the number of wins. Following the match we met again at the North London Club to enjoy an end of season dinner with our families. Next year it will be the Old Albanians’ turn to host the dinner.

The Club is open five nights a week to help young people aged 8 to 19 develop through music, sports, games and discussions. We focus on providing exciting activities such as art, gardening, music and choir, sports and film making, guided by trained workers. The boxing section has had to close for a time but the facility is being renovated and a new leader brought in for sessions with the under 18s.
