Anthony Burgess. He also attended Alleyn Club dinners both in New York and at Dulwich during regular visits back to the UK, and was a member of the Canon Carver Society. His sister, Danae Wilkins, and life-long friend, Stuart Hulse, both contributed significantly to this obituary.

process for rubber, along with other processes. He then went on to work for John Brights, where he helped set up their rubber dipping plant, before ending his career working for Milliken Industrials. In his working career, he became one of the world’s leading authorities on the adhesion of rubber in textiles, which allowed him to travel worldwide lecturing on the subject and advising other companies such as tyre manufacturers Dunlop and Pirelli. During his working career, he contributed to several books and after he retired he wrote The Application of Rubber in Textiles, which is still in print today and has been translated into other languages. At one time he was a member of Bury Council and served on their Education and Housing Committee. He was also Chairman of Bury Marriage Guidance Council. He married Shirley Hollows in 1967, and is survived by Shirley and their daughter Alexandra.

David Buchanan Wootton (1948-53) 24.03.1935 – 31.12.2012

David B Wootton, MA, AMPRI, Industrial Chemist was brought up in West Dulwich and came to the College from Oakfield Preparatory School. He was in Grenville and joined the Army section of the CCF while at the College, becoming Company Quartermaster Sergeant Major (CQMS). He won an open scholarship to Oriel College, Oxford, where he was secretary of the Oriel boat club and rowed at Henley, before graduating with an MA in chemistry in 1956. He then moved to Manchester to work for ICI in Blackley, where he helped to patent the vulcanisation
