Alleyn Club Newsletter 2015

We all have the power to make a difference to the future of Dulwich College. After providing for friends and family, leaving a gift to the College in your will could be one of the best investments you ever make, helping to transform the lives of future Alleynians. • Unrestricted gifts can be applied to wherever need is greatest, but legacy gifts can be made for a specific purpose, such as support for the Bursary Appeal Fund. • Dulwich College is a registered charity, making legacy gifts exempt from inheritance tax and reducing overall tax liability. Where 10% or more of a net estate is left to charity, the inheritance tax rate is reduced from 40% to 36%. • The College Development Office can provide further information on legacy giving: +44 (0)20 8299 5335 or development @ dulwich.org.uk. ‘ The College provided me with the chance to grow and excel academically, resulting in an offer from Oxford. I have endeavoured to involve myself as much as possible in the many co-curricular activities on offer, playing in several sports teams, the Symphony Orchestra and Big Band, and serving as Chairman of the Biology Society. These opportunities would not have been possible were it not for generous financial support from the College, for which I will be eternally grateful.’ Recent bursary recipient ‘ My brothers and I greatly enjoyed our time at Dulwich as beneficiaries of the wonderful Gilkes Experiment. We were given a vital preparation for our future careers, Peter as a gynaecologist, myself as a school teacher, and Alastair as a university lecturer and administrator. Since then I have seen hundreds of our successors relish the same privilege of studying under teachers often of rare brilliance. It is a huge debt well worth repaying.’ Dr Colin Niven OBE Palmes académiques (52-60) | Alleyn Club President 2013-14 and Canon Carver Society member Your legacy matters
