single maintenance activity. Easier and safer access can support more consistent preventative maintenance, helping operators address wear and other issues before they develop into more disruptive failures. Towards smarter screening Technology is also beginning to influence how screening equipment is monitored and managed. One of the key trends identified by Macauley is the growing use of artificial intelligence within mineral processing. “The market is moving towards the use of artificial intelligence to monitor performance, predict failures and optimise the performance of screening media on vibrating - and trommel screens,” he says. As this technology develops, the ability to use operational data to identify changes in performance and anticipate potential failures could become increasingly important. At the same time, the fundamental requirement has not changed. Customers continue to demand screening products that provide consistent, efficient and optimised performance across mineral- processing circuits. For Macauley, the direction of the market is therefore not only towards new technology, but towards screening solutions that combine efficient performance, reliability, safety and maintainability. b

specific polyurethane or rubber media, with aperture configurations and designs selected according to the material and screening requirements. “Application-specific polyurethane or rubber media, correctly configured apertures and self-cleaning or anti- blinding designs can improve screening performance, extend service life and help reduce the total cost of ownership,” he explains. The emphasis on total cost of ownership reflects a broader shift in how customers assess screening equipment. Rather than focusing solely on the initial purchase price, operators are considering the longer-term implications of wear life, maintenance, downtime and overall performance. Making maintenance safer Reliability and maintainability remain key requirements for screening equipment,
with customers looking for longer wear life, reduced maintenance requirements, and minimal downtime. Multotec has responded with developments aimed at making routine interventions quicker and safer. Features such as modular deck conversions and pinless fastening systems can simplify media changeouts while reducing maintenance downtime. “A key development focus is reducing maintenance time and making maintenance activities easier and safer,” says Macauley. The company has also developed several hammer-less attachment systems that reduce the risk of hand injuries. These are designed to shorten maintenance interventions while reducing the safety hazards associated with conventional attachment methods. For processing plants, the benefits extend beyond the time saved during a
