The famous museum, in cooperation with the gallery Bank Austria Kunstforum Wein, is presenting the first major retrospective exhibition in Austria of one of Serbia’s greatest living artists T he exhibition at Vienna’s Albertina Modern of- fers an extensive overview of Marina Abramov- ić’s work, with reenactments of her historical per- formance art appearances to be presented daily throughout the duration of the exhibition’s run. Born 1946 in Belgrade, Marina Abramović is among the world’s most important contemporary artists. Considered the founder of modern performance art, she has entered the an- nals of art history with her legendary performances. Begin- ning in the Belgrade of the early 1970s, Abramović’s career has spanned more than 50 years and served to consolidate performance as an important visual art genre. Special rooms have been designed in collaboration with the artist for the purposes of this Vienna retrospective. They ex- hibit examples of her early works created in Belgrade, her first solo performances, collaboration with Ulay and their famous joint performances entitled Transitory Objects for Human Use, which marked the beginning of her second solo phase, the spectacular Balkan Baroque performance that won her the Golden Lion at the 1997 Venice Biennale, as well as her more recent video and sculptural works.

I zložba u bečkom muzeju „Albertina“ pruža obi- man pregled stvaralaštva Marine Abramović. To- kom čitavog trajanja svakodnevno će se izvoditi rekonstrukcije istorijskih performansa. Marina Abramović (rođena 1946. u Beogra- du) jedna je od najznačajnijih savremenih umetnica. Smatra se začetnicom moderne performans-umetno- sti i svojim legendarnim nastupima upisala se u istoriju umetnosti. Počev od ranih 70-ih u Beogradu, tokom vi- še od 50 godina duge karijere, Abramović je performans učvrstila kao važnu umetničku formu u okviru vizuel- ne umetnosti. Za retrospektivu su u saradnji s umetnicom osmi- šljene posebne prostorne celine. U njima su predstavlje- ni njeni rani radovi nastali u Beogradu, prvi samostalni performansi, saradnja s Ulajem i njihovi čuveni zajed- nički nastupi, „Privremeni predmeti za ljudsku upotre- bu“ koji su označili početak njene druge samostalne fa- ze, spektakularni performans „Balkanski barok“ za koji je 1997. godine na Venecijanskom bijenalu dobila „Zlat- nog lava“, kao i noviji video-radovi i skulpturalna dela.
