Publication in book form is, however, currently untraced. Rackham provided illustrations to an edition of Clement C. Moore’s The Night Before Christmas in 1931. The present illustration is not one of the four coloured plates. Original drawing (248 × 177 mm) on artist’s board (260 × 177 mm with “Smith’s Specially Prepared Boards” printed on reverse), fine ink and watercolour, signed (“Arthur Rackham”) lower right, with “Santa Claus” and artist’s signature on reverse, mounted, framed, and glazed (framed size 434 × 345 mm).
