The White Plague , a story of bioterrorism and gendercide, was nominated for a Locus Award for best science fiction novel in 1983. Octavo. This, the fifth instalment of Herbert’s award-winning Dune series, continues the story 1,500 years after the events of God-Emperor of Dune (1981). Octavo. Original maroon cloth, spine lettered in gilt, blue endpapers. Housed in the publisher’s maroon cloth slipcase. Colour frontispiece by Abe Echevarria, limitation and title page printed in grey and blue. Spine a touch sunned with small mark to foot. A near-fine copy in slipcase with a few trivial dust marks. £750 [156813] 214 HOLTBY, Winifred. South Riding. London: Collins, 1936 First edition, limited deluxe issue, number 68 of 175 copies with a hand-written limitation, and specially bound in quarter vellum. Vera Brittain contributes a three-page memorial epitaph for the author specially for this issue – it does not appear in the trade version, nor does the photographic portrait frontispiece. South Riding , published posthumously, was both Holtby’s best-known novel and her final. Octavo. Original quarter vellum, green morocco label to spine, green cloth sides, top edge gilt, others untrimmed. Lightly soiled, contemporary inscription to front free endpaper, contents clean and unmarked. A very good copy. £750  [156448]
