Wireless COCONUT
The
My wife Tracy Phillips and I have been non- resident members since 2022 and were very active in paddling for OCC for many years when we
were there. We continue to paddle our outrigger canoes regularly in Minnesota since we live on Lake Minnetonka and have easy access to many lakes and rivers around here. On June 9th, we competed in the MR25 on our Puakea Ballare OC-2, a 20-mile race down the Mississippi River, and finished 1st in mixed tandem, and 2nd overall. Our finish time of 1:55:54 was also a course record for canoes/kayaks. —Al Darling
Alice Lunt and Michele St. John were still thinking, “Are we dreaming?” No girls, it’s not a dream. It’s real! Playing seven games and winning six to win Pool 2. But they had their hands full because they were up against Pool 1 winners, Chris Crabb and Chris McLaughlin , who also won six games. But longtime friends Alice and Michele did it; they were the new OCC Cribbage Champs. I still have requests from members who want to learn how to play. Call me so we can arrange a time to teach. We all love Cribbage; what fun it is! Until next year, keep playing! –Margie Howe (Photo by Dave Wadsworth)
There was a great turnout for the Community Engagement Committee’s Genki Ball Drop. Member- volunteers made and dropped 964 Genki Balls into the Ala Wai Canal, both from the shore and from two canoes. We plan to do it again next year with a goal of 2,000! –Alice Lunt, Chair
