The Child Care Quality & Innovation Initiative is dedicated to improving early childhood care and education in New York City. Recognizing that high-quality child care is essential for a child’s development and a family’s economic stability, the initiative invests in innovative solutions to enhance care quality, increase access, and support child care providers. Through strategic funding and partnerships, the initiative helps providers adopt best practices, improve learning environments, and strengthen workforce training. It also supports efforts to integrate technology and research-backed methods into child care settings, ensuring children receive nurturing,
groundbreaking work. Chances for Children enhances infant mental health through parent-child therapy, FamilyCook Productions promotes family nutrition and bonding through hands-on culinary education, and Forestdale provides mental health services to break cycles of intergenerational trauma. These efforts are crucial in a city where 64% of residents live in child care deserts, leaving many infants and toddlers without adequate learning and care opportunities. Robin Hood’s investment in early learning is based on research showing that early childhood interventions yield long-term benefits, such as higher graduation rates, reduced involvement in the justice system, and improved mental health. Your support of Robin Hood is transforming our City into an early-learning metropolis. Our gratitude to the major donors of FUEL: The Bezos Family Foundation, Overdeck Family Foundation, Touradji Family Foundation, Heising-Simons Foundation, and the Einhorn Collaborative.
FUEL for 50 is a three-year, $10 million initiative by Robin Hood’s Fund for Early Learning (FUEL) aimed at supporting community organizations that help families with young children (ages 0-3). Recognizing that parents and caregivers are a child’s first teachers, the program funded 50 nonprofits to create innovative, community-led early learning programs. Participants received phased funding (ranging from $25,000 to $1 million), capacity-building support, and expert-led workshops to expand their impact in New York City communities affected by poverty. At the program’s conclusion, three organizations—Chances for Children, FamilyCook Productions, and Forestdale— were awarded nearly $1 million each for their
accessibility to create a stronger, more equitable child care system. Your generosity moves New York City closer to realizing the initiative’s ultimate goal: giving all children—regardless of their family’s financial situation—a solid foundation for lifelong learning and success while enabling parents to pursue work and educational opportunities. The Child Care Quality & Innovation Initiative is a partnership between Robin Hood, the City of New York and was made possible through a lead gift by Alexis Ohanian and the 776 Foundation, and other key funders including the Bezos Family Foundation and the Freedom Together Foundation.

Real estate plays a crucial role in where and how our community partners deliver critical services and address citywide challenges like affordable housing, education, and food insecurity. In 2024, the Capital Grants Initiative helped fund and develop New Stories Inwood, a public-private partnership transforming a worn NYC Library branch into a modern library and a residential tower with 174 deeply affordable apartments. In Washington Heights, we
supported the opening of a new warehouse for the West Side Campaign Against Hunger (WSCAH), one of Manhattan’s largest food pantries. Since launching, WSCAH has increased food distribution by 30%, providing vital support to local residents. Over the last two decades, your philanthropy has enabled the Capital Grants Initiative to lease, buy, build, renovate, and finance more than 3 million square feet of space for charter schools, libraries, job training facilities, shelters, and more.
