So, he dashes off to the barn. He sees, to his amazement, that the animals are secure with plenty of feed. He runs out to the field. He sees the bales of wheat have been bound and are wrapped in tarpaulins. He races to the silo. The doors are latched, and the grain is dry.And then he understands. 'He sleeps in a storm.' My friends, if we tend to the things that are important in life, if we are right with those we love and behave in line with our faith and our beliefs our lives will not be cursed with the aching throb of unfulfilled business. Our words will always be sincere, our embraces will be tight. We will never wallow in the agony of 'I could have, I should have, I could have. We can sleep in a storm. And when it's time, our good- byes will be complete.” Put quite simply, if we take care of business, which for us, is our thing, we too can sleep in a storm when the curveballs come hurling through the front door. For me, the simple approach of putting my intention out into the universe with a simple promise of not today lady, not today as I light candles putting the world on notice that I am showing up today - works. It is critical to understand in early sobriety, that changing habits of any kind be that chocolate, wine or smoking requires effort in the early days and guess what? It will require time and effort as your energy and neural pathways begin to recalibrate.

We are becoming non-drinkers not joining some cult that operates on the margins of life, we are fully integrated members of society who happen to put zero in our glass. As the week unfolds and guest safely gather - STOP freaking apologising for being a non-drinker. Own it, ladies, truly own it. NQTD – Never Question The Decision because when you do, Moderation Mary stops by, getting into your head creating conflict and uncertainty. I don't drink that's it. World, get over it, no explanations needed to anyone about anything, it's my thing, it will always be my thing and I refuse to waste a precious moment of my life on this 'will I, won't I' conversation.
