Dear Friends and Colleagues: I would like to share a recent experience with you about an inspiring organization that is revolutionizing the financing of energy retrofits to older buildings in underserved communities. I recently attended Convergence: USGBC’s national gathering of chap- ter leaders in San Diego, California. The opening plenary featured Keynote Speaker Donnel Baird, CEO and Founder of BlocPower. Mr. Baird inspired attendees with a message of thinking creatively and using all available resources to bring t e benefits of sustainability to underserved communities who stand to see the greatest benefit.

Services, Inc. SECRETARY BlocPower is addressing green job creation, energy efficiency and climate change, and helping under- served communities to go green. These are many of the same goals of USGBC NJ. We are currently providing grant-funded sustainability training to qualifying NJ businesses, we recently finished a grant- funded project to create a Green Master Plan for 2 schools (in Perth Amboy & Jersey City), and are hosting up to 200 kids and their chaperons for a green education day: Speed LEED at the Beach on August 19th. We are also participating in the Green Apple Day of Service , a day dedicated to giving parents, teachers, students, companies and local organizations the opportunity to transform all schools into healthy, safe and productive learning environments through local service projects. markets and finances solar and energy efficiency retrofits in underserved communities (including church- es, synagogues, non-profits, and small businesses), and hires local workers to do the installation.

• 7/30- 8/20/15 - STUDY GROUP for LEED Green Associate Exam (4 part)- Trenton, NJ. Four sessions- one per week: Thursdays- July 30, August 6, 13, 20, 2015, 12:00 Noon to 2:00 PM. Registration required. • 8/19/15 - 8th Annual Summer Social Networking Event- Pleasant Beach, NJ. • 9/26/15 - USGBC GREEN APPLE DAY OF SERVICE - Although the “official” Green Apple Day of Service for this year is Saturday, September 26, 2015, schools are free to hold their event any time during the 2015-2016 school year. • 10/30/15 - USGBC NJ 13th Annual Emerald Awards Masquerade Ball- Montclair, NJ.
