Professional March 2018

The CIPP’s

Categories announced and nominations open 1 March

The CIPP’s Annual Excellence Awards are the longest running, independent awards in the industry. They were established to recognise the important role that payroll and pensions play in the UK economy; especially when you consider the £446 billion* paid to the government through income tax and National Insurance contributions.

To celebrate our fifteenth year of Annual Excellence Awards we are launching online nominations.

How to win an Annual Excellence Award?

To give yourself the best chance at winning an Annual Excellence Award, follow our tips below. 1. Allow plenty of time to complete your nomination It takes time to put a nomination together so make sure that you improve your chances by allowing plenty of time to do so and not leaving it until the last minute. Entries close on 10 August 2018. 2. Focus on the criteria Make sure you meet each of the criteria outlined for the award. The judges cannot allocate scores if you have not met the criteria. If you say that you meet the criteria, then you’ll score one; if you provide evidence of how you meet the criteria, then you will score higher. Keep your entry clear and concise to stay within the word limit and give your evidence

the best chance of standing out to the judges. The winning nomination is, quite simply, the nomination with the highest score at the end of the process. 3. Evidence It is really easy to say that you do something, but the judges will be looking for evidence that you really do what you say! This is where most nominations lose marks on the judging day. Everyone says that they meet the criteria outlined within the template, but they do not back it up. Add relevant evidence to support your nomination. For example, if the nomination asks about changes to processes to improve efficiencies, include a report measuring the progress. You can attach up to three supporting documents in PDF format. But be sure that they add to your nomination. Avoid including

unnecessary information for the judges to sift through to find your point.

4. Have a great summary statement of NO MORE THAN 250 words Your summary statement should be clear, concise and to the point. It should say “I should win because of x, y and z” and then it should direct the judge to where the information is contained within the nomination. Your summary statement should be the last part of the template that you complete, as this summarises everything else contained within. Remember, the Annual Excellence Awards get lots of nominations. Use your summary to stand out from the competition. * based on income tax and National Insurance contributions shown here: http:// bit.ly/2k8V4uh
