art permitted to speak for thyself.” Paul had a better subject. He did not speak about himself at any length but quickly turned the king’s attention to another King greater than he. In his powerful way, anointed by the Holy Spirit, Paul preached to Agrippa con cerning the coming judgment and his need of Christ Jesus. Paul pleaded with him personally and directly but the case was lost because Bernice was there. She was a sister of the king but was his own wife. Agrippa chose his illegit imate sweetheart rather than the Son of God.

One may be famous for good or for evil. Nero was famous for his wicked ness while Lincoln was famous for his goodness. Men become famous whose deeds are of such a character that they become widely known throughout a great sphere. God’s estimate of greatness is seen in the story of the widow who gave two mites. Man’s estimate of greatness is seen in the acclaim given to Beethoven for his music, or Goethals for his en gineering, or Michelangelo for his paint ings. We should desire to be famous in God’s sight. Genesis 28:10-22 Jacob was a strange yet very famous character in the Bible. God calls Him self the God of Jacob in many places in the Scripture. Jacob was crooked. He was a schemer. He planned mostly for himself to the detriment of others. He connived with others for evil purposes. However, Jacob was always building altars. Whenever he sinned, he made an altar and offered his sacrifice. He craved the fellowship of God and desired the blessing of God. He did not turn his back on the God of Abraham as Esau did. He offered to give God one-tenth of his income but his own son Joseph made the Egyptians give 20% to their king. Esther 5:l-8 Prom the life and experiences of this famous woman we may learn some very delightful and profitable lessons. One of the great patterns for prayer from the Bible is found in connection with this queen. In chapter 8:5 is recorded the four salient characteristics of prayer and Esther used all of them in her ap proach to her husband king. She braved death on behalf of her people. She risk ed her life in obtaining the salvation of their lives. She wept because her heart was so deeply touched with the tremen dous need of Israel. Her prayer was answered. The deliverance was assured and her heart was happy. Hainan, Esther: 6, 7, 8 This famous man was a descendant of Agag, a king of the Amalekites. Saul spared Agag and all of his family es pecially his sons. The neglect of King Saul was reflected years later in the tragic story of Haman, a descendant of Agag. This man hated the Jews. He constantly schemed for their destruc tion. He had no fear of God before his eyes. The supreme humiliation was heaped upon him when he was told to lead Mordecai through the streets. His downfall was quick and sudden. Hitler tried the same program and suffered the same results. Paul, Acts 26: 1-20 This great man of God was called be fore King Agrippa and was told, “ Thou JUNE, 1951
