The last three words are, “IN STRUCTED CHILD OBEYED.” They tell how Timothy, being instructed by his mother and grandmother, obeyed the teachings of the Bible. Certainly Tim othy was happy, as any boy or girl will be, who, having been taught the Scrip tures, obeys.

Objects: An old shoe and a paper bag. Lesson: You can’t guess what I have in this paper sack. Try as you may, I am sure that you will never be able to guess. I shall have to tell you. It is a likeness of the unsaved before Christ finds them. “ Oh, it’s just an old shoe,” I hear someone say. But wait until I call your attention to some of the ways in which this old shoe is like the human family. What are the little holes called through which the shoe laces pass? “ Eyes.” Yes, this shoe has many eyes, but it cannot see. This inability to see was one of the things Christ found wrong with the human family. The people could see worldly things, but not spiritual things. They were spiritually blind. They need ed to have their eyes opened. Another thing to notice about this shoe is that it has a tongue, but it can not speak. When Christ came to earth, people could talk; but their talk was not the kind that pleased Him. They were speaking “ out of the abundance of the heart,” and their words were mostly un clean, because their hearts were evil. This shoe has a sole, but it cannot go to Heaven. The lost souls of men, women and children brought Jesus Christ to earth to die for their salvation. In looking at this old shoe, I am re minded of the parable of the lost sheep. In Matt. 18:12-14 we read, “ How think ye? if a man have an hundred sheep, and one of them be gone astray, doth he not leave the ninety and nine, and goeth into the mountains, and seeketh that which is gone astray? And if so be that he find it, verily I say unto you, he rejoiceth more of that sheep, than of the ninety and nine which went not astray. Even so it is not the will of your Father which is in heaven, that one of these little ones should perish.” If you have not received the Lord Jesus as your Saviour, He longs to save your soul, open your blind eyes, and give you a clean tongue with which to sing His praises. Object: A piece of paper 8)4x11 inches. (Fold each end to within 14 inch of the middle, leaving a gap of Y 2 inch. In this space print the word, “ TIMOTHY.” Cut a colored picture from a catalogue or magazine, showing a smiling young man, and paste on the flap to the left of the word, “TIMOTHY.” Unfold the flaps, and using the letters in the word “ TIM OTHY,” complete the following words, “ FA I TH , SCR I PTURES , GRAND MOTHER, MOTHER, INSTRUCTED, CHILD and OBEYED.” ) Lesson: This is a happy looking boy, whose picture we see on this paper. Down the middle of the paper, we read his name, “ TIMOTHY.” We have chosen the face of a happy looking boy, because we are sure that Timothy in the Bible was a happy young man. How many of you people would like to be happy? All want to be, I see. There are few people who do not want to be happy, but there are also very few who know how to be happy. We will open this paper and see if Timothy tells us what it took to make him happy. The first word we see is “ FAITH.” We are reminded of Paul’s words to Timothy: “When I call to remembrance the unfeigned faith that is in thee” (2 Tim. 1:5). The boy or girl who has faith in Christ will be happy. The second word is “ SCRIPTURES.” In 2 Tim. 3:15, we read, “ And that from a child thou hast known the holy scrip tures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.” When the Scriptures and salvation are in a boy’s heart, he is sure to be happy. We next notice the words, “ GRANDMOTHER and MOTHER.” In speaking of Timothy’s faith,. Paul said, “ Which dwelt first in thy grandmother Lois, and thy mother Eunice; and I am persuaded that in thee also” (2 Tim. 1:5). The boy or girl who has Christian parents is likely to be happy.

Object: A piece of paper on which are sketched 4 windows. (With a darker col ored crayon, print one of the letters in the word “H-O-M-E” on each of the windows. Paste another piece of paper the same color on the back of this paper. Cut down one side and across the top and bottom of the “ H” and “ M” win dows. This will allow them to swing open. Open them and put crossbars on the sheet which has been glued on the back. On the first print the letter “ L” and on the third the letter “V.” When these windows are opened the word “ LOVE” is spelled.) Lesson: You have never seen the win dows of a home with letters such as these, I am sure. We will let these win dows remind us of the home of Mary and Martha, where Jesus liked to go, when tired and in need of rest and fel lowship. The home of Mary and Martha must have been a very wonderful place. It must have been a happy home for Jesus spent much time there, we think. Did you know that the windows of a home often tell whether or not the home is a happy one? If you should pass a home in which you saw the whole family drinking whiskey you would know that it was not a happy home. If you should notice a family reading the Bible to gether, you would be pretty sure that it was a happy home. We will open a couple of the windows in Mary and Martha’s home and see if we can find out why it was happy. As we open the first and third windows, we see the word, “ L-O-V-E.” Love is a very important thing in a happy home. Paul realized this and he wrote in First Corinthians 13:4-8a, “ Charity [love] suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunt- eth not itself, is not puffed up, Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil; Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but re joiceth in the truth; Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things. Charity never fail- eth.” If there was more Christian love in homes, there would be more happy homes like Mary and Martha’s. Pago Thirty-seven
