Healing Waves was created with a simple but powerful belief — that everyone, regardless of their condition or disability, should have the opportunity to experience the freedom, fun, and therapeutic power of the ocean. This local charity provides safe and supported access to water sports for people with a wide range of physical, sensory, and neurological conditions, as well as those with learning disabilities or mental health challenges. Activities include surfing, paddle boarding, and FlowRider sessions, all carefully adapted to meet individual needs. Every session is designed to be inclusive and person-centred, led by trained volunteers and qualified surf instructors who prioritise safety, comfort, and enjoyment. The charity also uses a wheelchair- adapted surfboard, allowing participants with limited mobility to ride the waves and experience the thrill of the sea in a secure and supported way. At Healing Waves, the water becomes more than just a place for sport — it’s a space for therapy, confidence-building, and connection.
