L abatt Breweries of Canada is mobilizing its Canadian Disaster Relief Program for the eighth time since created in 2013 and is providing nearly 100,000 cans of emergency drinking water for residents and on-the-ground responders in communities along the Saint John River in New Brunswick that have been hit with the worst river flooding in decades. Two trucks carrying cases of water canned to disaster spec- ifications left Labatt’s distribution centre in Mississauga destined for delivery to the New Brunswick Department of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal in Hanwell, and the local fire department in Oromocto, NB. Charlie Ange- lakos, Labatt’s vice president, legal and corporate affairs said, “The employees of Labatt in Atlantic Canada and across the country are deeply concerned for the welfare of their fellow citizens along the Saint John River. When these unfortunate natural disasters occur, our priority is to quickly implement our Disaster Relief Program and help out wherever we can.” “As one of Canada’s founding businesses and oldest brewers, Labatt has long and strong ties with the people of Atlantic Canada. We’re grateful to be able to build on our more than 170 year legacy of giving back to this country by leveraging our strengths and resources to get safe drinking water to Canadians in need,” said Angelakos
O n the heels of a successful launch in Ontario, McDonald’s Canada announces that it will be expanding its new McCafé bagels to participating restaurants across the country. The new offering aligns with Canadians’ love of bagels as the recent Ontario launch performed better than expected. McCafé bagels are baked fresh daily and toasted to order in restaurants and are available in four varieties: plain, mul- tigrain, cinnamon & raisin, and everything, with a choice of three spreads: Philadelphia regular cream cheese product, Philadelphia herb & garlic cream cheese product, and spreadable real butter. In Quebec, the everything bagel choice was swapped with sesame seed due to consumer insights on local preferences. Canadians will be able to enjoy McCafé bagels with their favourite coffee at participating McDonald’s locations in com- munities across the country.
Canadians do love their bagels as approximately 290 million are served in Canada each year. So we think that McDonald’s might be on to something here.
