As soon as it can, the cat will clamp its jaws on the prey’s windpipe to suffocate it. Or it might bite the back of the neck, through the spine. The jaguar has extremely powerful jaws, which can bite right through its victim’s skull. Big cats are such skilled hunters that most can bring down prey three times their own weight, and sometimes even greater. More amazing is that they usually do this alone. Unlike wolves and hyenas, which hunt in groups, most big cats are solitary hunters. But hunting is never easy. It is very hard to sneak up on a deer or antelope without being seen. Often, the prey will get away and the cat must try again. A big cat needs patience, as well as skill.
Jaguars are the third-largest big cat, after tigers and lions. They are found in SouthAmerica and southern parts of NorthAmerica.Their prey includes tapirs, capybaras, deer, caimans, turtles, and sometimes even anacondas.
