By about two months in age the cubs begin eating meat their mother brings, and later they start joining her on trips away from the den. They share her kills and try chasing small animals of their own. Cheetah cubs start joining their mother when they are very young, at about six weeks in age. That is because a cheetah mother must travel long distances to find enough prey. She cannot be tied to a den for long.
