From our attorneys to the team running the office, every person here is the best at what they do. This allows me to rest easy knowing that, even if I am not managing a case myself, my clients are always in good hands. The newest lawyer in the office is Jeffrey Best, who joins us in sunny Florida after a long career up north. In his brief time with our firm, Jeffrey has already done great work and confirmed I made the right decision bringing him on. This month, I want to let Jeffrey introduce himself in his own words. All my life, I have loved sports. Growing up, I was on almost every team at my school, but football was my best and favorite. I played offensive line, and I grew up working as part of a team. Being a lawyer and working at a firm always reminds me of being on the field. Cases aren’t won by a lone attorney, no matter how smart they are. It takes a team working together to see their clients get the justice they deserve. I’ve never been content to sit behind a desk pushing paper. I got into personal injury law because I saw that it was where I could do the most good. When people get into bad situations, they need help to make it out alright. They need someone who knows how to talk to a judge, interview doctors, and persuade a jury to achieve the best results they’re entitled to. Plus, I enjoy -Marc Shapiro
After graduating law school in 1995, I got my license to practice in Indiana and Illinois. I ran firms in each state for several years. Not long ago, my family relocated to Naples after my wife was offered a job in the medical field. After the move, I briefly switched gears in my
career. But, It didn’t last long, as I knew I needed to get back into law. It’s what I’m good at and what I know how to do.
To practice law in Florida, I needed to retake the bar exam. It had been over 20 years since I’d been to law school, so sitting down to take that test again was more than a little intimidating. But I studied hard and passed. Now I’m here and raring to go. I joined Marc and the firm in June of 2018. Sometimes I feel like a brand-new lawyer but with 23 years of experience. Things are a little different here in Florida, but I love it. We have great clients and an awesome staff. I look forward to seeing what this team can accomplish together.

Garlic Cures Colds
For decades, moms have professed the healing properties of garlic, suggesting it can cure colds and help the body fight sickness. It turns out they were absolutely right. Garlic has antiviral
properties that strengthen the immune system and nutrients that help combat illnesses. The effects of garlic can actually be more effective than over-the-counter flu medications. Some studies show that regular consumption of raw garlic lessens the likelihood of getting a cold, so if you feel a tickle in your throat, try a clove before you open the medicine cabinet.

Heartburn Means a Hairy Baby
It’s hard to list wives’ tales without bringing up one about pregnancy. Many are solely based on intuition, but a few that sound odd are legitimate. In 2007, a study done by Johns Hopkins attempted to debunk the myth that heartburn during pregnancy would mean a hairy baby at birth. Instead of proving it wrong, they found that 82 percent of women with severe heartburn during pregnancy gave birth to hairy babies. Turns out the hormones that cause heartburn in pregnant women also affect fetal hair growth.

Directions 1. On a large baking sheet lined with wax paper, place 4 slices of brioche and spread 1 tablespoon of peanut butter on each. Cover with remaining slices, creating sandwiches. 2. In a pie plate, beat eggs with cream and vanilla. In another, coarsely crush the cornflakes. 3. Lightly soak sandwiches in the egg mixture, then dredge in cornflakes, pressing to adhere. Return to baking sheet. 4. In a large skillet over medium heat, melt 1 tablespoon butter. Once melted and up to temperature, add sandwiches, cooking on one side until golden and crisp, about 2–3 minutes. 5. Return sandwiches to baking sheet, add remaining butter, and repeat on other side. 6. Top sandwiches with berries, sprinkle with powdered sugar, and serve with maple syrup.
