KATHRYN'S PRAYER i ! A T rue S tory * By ETHEL S. LOW

K ATHRYN was a fair-haired little girl. She was six years old, and lived in a beautiful ers or sisters, so her dolls were her playmates. Kathryn loved them very much. She also loved her mother and father; but most of all, she loved the Lord Jesus whom she had taken as her Saviour. One fine morning when her mother was busy in the kitchen, and Kathryn was playing in the yard, the Lord Jesus spoke to her heart. He made her feel that Frankie Dean, a family friend, who, with many other brave soldiers, was fighting in far away France, needed her prayers just at that moment. Kathryn left her play .and ran to the kitchen. “Mother,” she urged, “please come and pray to the Heaven ly Father with me for Frankie.” “In a moment, dear,” her mother replied, "just as soon as I finish wash ing the dishes.” “P-l-e-a-s-e, Mother, c o m e right now,” begged Kathryn tugging at her mother’s hand, “ ’cause I think Frank ie’s been shot.” Then Kathryn’s mother dried her hands, and they both went into the living room. There they knelt by the window seat. Then Kathryn prayed out loud. She asked the Heavenly Father to bless Frankie, to take care of him, and to bring him back to his friends in America after the war. After that, Kathryn’s mother prayed, then they both said, “Amen.” Kathryn’s mother went back to her housework, and Kathryn returned to her play. So sure was she that the brave young soldier had been wounded, that every evening in her prayer time, Kathryn asked the Lord to make Frankie well. And each day this little Christian girl and her mother looked for a letter telling them about their young friend. Weeks and months went by, but no letter came. However, Kath ryn and her mother kept right on praying, and in thei hearts there was the feeling that the Heavenly Father was hearing and answering their prayers. After a long time this news came: On the very same day that the Lord Jesus told Kathryn in her heart that Frankie was in trouble, he and many other soldiers were in a very danger ous and important battle. Many young soldiers were killed, and Frankie was hurt. Though he was in gréât pain,

he prayed while he was lying on the ground waiting for help' to come to him. After a long while stretcher- bearers came, picked him up very gently and carried him to a hospital where doctors bound up his wounds and took care of him until he was well. When her mother finished reading the letter, Kathryn exclaimed, “Didn’t I say Frankie was shot? Didn’t I know it that morning when I had to pray for him?”

“Yes, dear,” her mother replied, “but what made you think you had to pray for him at that particular time?” “I think Jesus told me to do it,” Kathryn answered thoughtfully. In God’s Word there is a wonderful verse about partners in prayer and about the Heavenly Father’s answer ing the prayers of those who love Him. It says, "If two of you shall agree on earth as touching anything that they shall ask, it shall be done'for them of my Father which is in heaven” (Matt. 18:19). Kathryn was happy because she had obeyed the Lord Jesus when He spoke to her heart about praying for her friend, and her mother was glad that she had been willing to be Kath ryn’s partner in praying. . *Adapted from the tract, “A Little Child’s Prayer , published by The Good News Club.
