■ SLM (Everyone Active) has the highest average number of members per gym (around 2,500); Fusion, High Life Highland and Halo Leisure have the lowest (<1,000). ■ Freedom Leisure has the highest average monthly membership fee (just under £40) followed by Parkwood Leisure (around £38). High Life Highland has the lowest at just under £23 a month. ■ Compared to 2022, average monthly fees at GLL are +4.7%, SLM +5.8% and Freedom Leisure +3.6%.

■ SLM (Everyone Active) has the largest fitness membership base in the public sector, with around 400,000 members. ■ GLL, the UK’s #1 public sector operator by number of gyms, has the second largest fitness membership base: around 320,000 fitness members across 191 gyms. Places Leisure has the third highest with around 140,000 members. ■ High Life Highland and Halo Leisure each have fewer than 25,000 fitness members.
