are designated for low income seniors who cannot afford to pay market rent prices and are made safe and accessible for individuals to age in place. As an Aging in Place community, Lotus Village Senior Community integrates design, equipment and services to enable seniors to safely remain in their home even as their health and mobility change. Careful consideration was made during the design of the aging in place development. Special attention was given to the lighting,
wheelchair friendly doorways, altering cabinet heights, ramps, bathroom showers, door handles and armbars. The eligibility of residents were also assessed to participate at the Lotus Senior Center and receive senior services. Housing affordability and accessibility issues are and will continue to be a major concern of the East Baton Rouge Council on Aging. To address these challenges, we will continue to aggressively pursue funding and work to spur new development and the rehabilitation of
existing housing across East Baton Rouge Parish. We will also continue to look for innovative ways to leverage resources, enhance the delivery of senior services and to increase public and private partnerships to meet the demands of seniors who are in need of safe, affordable, accessible housing in a community of their choice to successfully age in place with dignity and independence.
