SAINT-GOBAIN ECOPHON GRADUATES FROM QUEEN’S UNIVERSITY PROJECT WITH A FIRST-CLASS CEILING SYSTEM INSTALLATION... SUSTAINABLE ENERGY LABORATORY NOW HAS A CEILING TO LOOK UP TO
S aint-Gobain Ecophon helped meet the acoustic requirements of an impressive new facility for Queen’s University Belfast. The Sustainable Energy Laboratory - located in the modernist Ashby Laboratory block - has been completely refurbished to provide a fresh, contemporary facility for Queen’s University’s School of Electronics, Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. Saint-Gobain Ecophon provided a solution to meet the client’s requirements for an acoustic, fully accessible ceiling that was also aesthetically pleasing.
“We have completed a wide range of projects over the years for Queen’s University, so we were delighted to be involved in another of their projects,” explained Davina Bradley, Area Manager for Northern Ireland. “Once again, it was a case of working closely with the University through the architect to find the right solution.” This collaboration culminated with the installation Ecophon Solo™ Matrix, fitted by accredited ceiling contractor, Buchanan Ceilings. Made from a minimum 59% post- consumer recycled content, Solo™ Matrix is a patented acoustic ceiling system for
larger areas where high coverage is required, but a wall-to-wall solution is not possible or wanted. The system provides quick-and-easy installation with high accuracy, thanks to pre-installed fixing devices and ‘click- in’ connection to the grid system. Each panel has a built-in hatch function and can easily be demounted. “Solo™ Matrix was the product that best suited the architects’ brief,” said Davina. “As well as providing superior acoustic properties and an easy-yet-accurate installation process, Solo™ Matrix offers a vast range of design possibilities. The architect wanted a distinctive design for
