DELIVERING THE OMAGH FIRE STATION ON TIME AND ON BUDGET WAS A SOURCE OF GREAT LOCAL COMMUNITY PRIDE FOR LOWRYS… Project: OmaghCommunity Fire Station &Service Support Centre, Belfast

T he heat was on for Lowrys as local pride played an important role for the company during the construction of the new Community Fire Station in Omagh - named as Commercial Project of the Year at FMB NI’s Master Builder of the Year Awards 2014. The company’s headquarters is in nearby Castlederg, so working on a project so close to home brought it’s own pressures. Listed as a priority capital project, Lowrys ensured that it was not only completed to the highest standards, but that Omagh Community Fire Station also came in on budget and was completed on schedule. The state-of-the-art Community Fire Station & District Headquarters on the Killybrack Road represented an investment of £4.4m and included on-site facilities for firefighter training,

transport and engineering workshops, as well as a dedicated community engagement facility with a strong focus on fire, road and community safety activity. The final finish delivered by Lowrys hit the mark; an Open Day attracted over 2,500 people from the local area. Then Public Safety Minister, Edwin Poots – who officially opened the facility – described it as “an investment in keeping this community safe from fire and other emergencies.” Chris Kerr, former Chief Fire Officer, Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service, was also full of praise about the standard of the new facilities. He said, “Omagh Community Fire Station is a flagship facility not just for our firefighters and personnel but also for the local community they serve and protect, as

well as for our partner agencies involved in emergency response.” NIFRS is a repeat client of Lowrys, having then delivered the new Service Support Centre on Boucher Road, Belfast in 2018.

“OpenDay attracted over 2,500people fromthe local area.”

Award-winningproject Lowry Building & Engineering’s work on Omagh Community Fire Station was recognised by Construction Excellence Awards 2015 and the FMB Master Builder Awards.
