QMACAPPOINTED TOTRANSFORM ARTSCENTRE

Tyrone-based QMAC Construction Ltd has secured a £1.6m+ contract with Derry City and Strabane District Council, which will involve the construction of an extension as well as the refurbishment of New Gate Arts & Cultural Hub in Londonderry. The high-profile project will consist of an extension and alterations to the existing arts centre at 20- 22 Hawkin Street in the city, to provide modern performance, multi-use spaces, offices and a café for North-West Culture Partnership. The project will also provide enhanced facilities for visitors, and space for nurturing and developing art-based community activities. A primary aim is that the development will achieve a BREEAM ‘Very Good’ rating. Junior Minister Gary Middleton visited the site in early February to cut the first sod for this new state-of-the-art shared performance space in the heart of the city.
