Hola Sober Morning Reflection

by Susan Christina

Dear Sober Queens, "Writing it out. Just putting words and pictures on a page soothes my soul and is getting me through the witching hours. This is a must for me. I can't have a bath or use scented candles and relax until such time as the demons are on a page as quite frankly, I would drown! Shame, guilt and self-doubt would join me in the bath as the quiet would give a stage to the voices that are swirling and I would probably, march down the stairs and pour a glass of wine. On Day #4 I know I can not give wine an opening and tell me I am overreacting to her presence, being a drama queen and can handle my wine. I can't and the carnage left in her wake has to go from my head to a page so that I hold true and focused on my freedom goal. Tonight I shall sit on the sofa with my husband journalling and enjoy his sense of peace and pride that his beloved is on Day#4." - Susan Christina Women often ask me did I ever struggle giving up alcohol as I seemed so resolute and strong. The reality is that every day, month, and year that you accumulate becomes a testament to your strength and resilience. Each sober milestone represents a victory over wine-o-clock-addiction-o- clock, a step forward towards reclaiming your life, and a reminder of the power you hold within. In the early days of sobriety, every single sober day may feel like an uphill battle. It requires courage to face triggers and cravings, to learn new coping mechanisms, and to navigate life without the crutch of alcohol. Yet, with each passing day, you develop a newfound sense of self- awareness, recognising your triggers and embracing healthier habits. As months pass, you gain momentum and begin to witness the positive changes in your life. Your confidence grows as you face

challenges head-on without resorting to alcohol. Relationships with loved ones flourish as trust is rebuilt. As time goes on, you can look back with pride and gratitude for the journey you've embarked upon. The challenges you once faced with trepidation are now conquered with ease and wisdom. You've transformed into a version of yourself that you can be proud of – someone resilient, compassionate, and unyielding in the pursuit of a meaningful life. You become more attuned to the beauty of life and the world around you is vibrant and full of possibilities. You savour the little moments, finding joy in the ordinary. Your heart is open, and you embrace vulnerability as a source of strength. Building days, months, and years in sobriety is not just about the passage of time; it's a journey of self- discovery, growth, and transformation. It's about recognising the power you have to shape your destiny and create a life that aligns with your true values and aspirations. As you continue to build your sober foundation, remember that you are not alone. There is a thriving community of women who understand and support your journey to finding joy in the profound gift of living authentically, free from the chains of drinking your head off nightly……….. In sobriety, you discover that the power to transform your life lies within you. The more days you add to your sober tally, the stronger you become – physically, mentally, and spiritually. With every passing moment, you realise that the life you were meant to lead is the one you are creating with each sober step forward. Embrace the journey, cherish your progress, and celebrate the growing strength within you. Amen to that. Please remember no matter what the world throws at you today, you will look skyward and say not today lady, not today.
