4.5 River Basins

Conservation Programs and Partnerships. Conservation programs, incentives, and part- nerships should be utilized to the fullest extent in order to preserve high-quality resources and protect important natural communities. Protective measures that utilize existing regu- latory frameworks to protect habitats and species should be incorporated where applicable. Land conservation or preservation can serve numerous purposes in the face of anticipated climate change, but above all, it promotes ecosystem resilience. • Support NCDMS Watershed Restoration Plans (WRPs) (see NCEEP 2004) and priorities (see NCEEP 2007a) for the entire basin and Local Watershed Plans (LWPs) and Project Atlases for fve smaller units (see MACTEC, NCEEP, and WPCG 2006) . Te Catawba-Wateree Basin Advisory Commission helps administer water issues in the basin and is a source for much information associated with those issues.
