P eople have been declaring this or that car is des- tined to become the next ’32 Ford roadster for years now. Today we have available steel repro- duction Tri-Five Chevys, first-generation Camaros, ‘65 Ford Mustangs and a host of other makes/models and they all make a great starting point for builds just like the thousands of steel Brookville Roadster bodies did for those wanting a ’32 Ford. None of these new reproduction bodies have knocked the ’32 off its throne yet, but today it seems the C10 Chevy pickup is winning the popularity contest (really C/10/20/30 plus GMC’s offerings.) Usually it’s the square-body pickup everybody waxes on about (‘73-91) and ultimately, the square-body will probably come out on top because of
the overwhelming numbers produced. Jerone Coca from Pueblo, Colorado, and I are huge fans of the second-generation C10 pickups (‘67-72) which General Motors dubbed the “Action Line” pickups, mostly a cosmetic redo of the first-gener- ation C10 (‘60-66.) Jerone has always loved and want- ed a ’72 and it’s easy to see why. The ’71-72 model years’ waffle grille really looks better than earlier and later C10 grilles (and it’s the most copied grille in the whole line with that waffle style available aftermarket for almost all Chevy/Ford/Dodge pickups.) The whole plan with the Action Line of pickups was to build haulers for the masses with more creature comforts for rising numbers of people driving pickups daily.
