things” ( 4 :8). How marvelously the teach ings o f the Old Testament and of the New Testament agree! Truly the Bible is all the work of one Writer, who in one place says, “Apply thine heart unto instruction,” and in another, “ Think on these things” —things spiritually instructive. The whole Book of Proverbs extols wis dom and knowledge, and emphasizes the importance of acquiring both. “Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wis dom: and with all thy getting get under standing,” says the sage (4 :7 ). Then he tells us : “The fear [reverential trust] of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom” (9:10). Again he says: “ Receive my in struction, and not silver; and knowledge rather than choice gold. For wisdom is better than rubies; and all the things that may be desired are not to be compared to it” (8:10, 11). In the New Testament we find a corrob oration of this great truth : To know God is to be truly wise. When He who was the Truth was standing before him, Pilate asked, “What is truth?” All through the ages man has been seeking truth, while God has been proclaiming, through His starry heavens, and through His written Word, the answer. The Lord Jesus Christ says : “ Cóme unto me,” and “I am the way, the truth, and the life.” Paul tells us in 1 Corinthians 1 :30 : “ But o f him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom." Later he says : “Now we have received, not the spirit o f the world, but the Spirit which is o f God ; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God. Which things also we speak, not in the words which man’s wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth” (1 Cor, 2:12, 13). Thus we realize that Paul in Philippians 4 :8 is merely saying, in effect : “ Consider Jesus Christ; for He is the Truth, the Just One, the altogether lovely One.” Think on Him. If we consider Him, we will want to listen only to those things which glorify Him, and which speak to us of Him. What sort of radio programs—both literally and figuratively—do you tune in? Do they turn your thoughts toward Christ, and are they true, honest, just, pure, and lovely? Listen to the voices of those who honor Christ and His Word. In order to get the message, all receiving stations must be attuned to the central broadcasting station. W e are reminded that since the receiving station must be attuned to the broadcaster, and not vice versa, just so we must get our souls in tune with God, not expecting Him to be assimilated to our selfishness, folly, and sin.—Adapted from R. C. H allock . II. T uning O ut » S tatic When God speaks, attention is demand ed. We often fail to hear Cod’s voice be cause of our divided attention. We are giving one ear to the voice o f God, and the other to the human voices around us. Jesus Christ says: “When thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and . . . shut thy door.” The closet is the “closed place,” the place from which all noise is shut out, the place where one is shut in with God and He alone is heard to speak. Sometimes in the use of the radio an important mes sage is lost because o f the bedlam of voices in the air caused by a host of unregulated Helps for the Leader I. T h e C entral S tation

Bible Conferences in China A. H. Reinhard, for many years con nected with the Milton Stewart Evangelis tic Funds, in their China Department, left for China September 19. During the latter part of his service with the Trust Fund, Mr. Reinhard was the representative of William E. Blackstone, Trustee o f the Fund. Mr. Reinhard’s expectation is that the China Conference Committee, the same committee that formerly was financed by the Trust Fund, will continue with the work of holding summer conferences. These conferences of the Keswick type in former years meant much to the mission ary body and to the leaders in the Chinese church. Under the guidance of the com mittee, Mr. Reinhard hopes to resume his work of organizing the conferences. Dur ing the winter months he plans to devote his time to “ Short Term Bible School” teaching among the Chinese Christians connected with the different missionary so cieties. There is an urgent need for this ministry, and there are open doors in many strategic centers for reaching Christians and inquirers who for a number of years have had little or no opportunity of hear ing God’s Word consecutively expounded. The homeland address is: 1124 W . Edge- ware Rd., Los Angeles, Calif. In China, Mr. Reinhard may be reached in care of The Missionary Home, No. 4 Quinsan Gardens, Shanghai.
