A. The phrases, “All that are afar off,” and “even as many as the Lord our God shall call” explain what is meant by the first part of these verses. It was the gift of the Holy Spirit who was promised to all who believed. It isn’t a promise that every believer’s children are going to be saved. It is, however, a prom ise that every believer’s child will have the same opportunity that the believer had in receiving J e s u s Christ as Saviour and thereby the gift of God’s Spirit. Q. Santa Monica, Calif. — “Would you please explain Matthew 16:28?”

A. Christ is talking to His disciples, reminding them of the coming ful fillment of prophetic events. The kingdom didn’t come in Messianic form while the Lord Jesus Christ was still on earth. Our Saviour meant here the preview of His king dom. After six days Peter, James, and John were taken up to the moun tain and Christ was transfigured be fore them. This is the Holy Spirit’s interpretation (II Peter 1:16-18). If you have a copy of the New Scofield Reference Bible, please see the note on page 1022. Submission to God’s will is the softest pillow on which to recline.
