NOMOS GLASHÜTTE MECHANICAL WATCHES FOR A HUMANITARIAN CAUSE

D octors Without Borders/ Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is committed to bringing medical aid to people in crisis regions around the world—and NOMOS Glashütte is proud to support this lifesaving work with limited edition timepieces. Every year, millions of people around the world are caught in catastrophic events such as armed conflicts, epidemics, malnutrition, or natural disasters. They are in need of ur- gent humanitarian assistance. The town of Glashütte, the birthplace of fine watchmak- ing in Germany, is by contrast a peaceful place. But just because we are far off the beaten path, does not mean that we are cut off from the world outside. This is why NOMOS Glashütte is pro- ducing limited editions of classic watch models to support the work of the Nobel Peace Prize-winning organization, Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières. NOMOS Glashütte first started raising funds for Doctors Without Borders in Germany, producing an initial batch of 2,000 watches in March 2012. This successful charitable initiative has since gone international: Special versions of the classic NOMOS model Tangente have also been produced exclusively for the USA and UK. Only 1,000 of each limited edition are available. One hundred dollars or pounds, respectively, from the sale of each watch go directly towards helping those most in need. These special timepieces also feature subtle allusions to their good cause: “Doctors Without Borders” can be found in the small inscription under the six and in the special engraving on the back of the limited edition timepieces. These limited

edition versions for the USA also feature black oxidized hands, instead of the Tangente’s usual tempered blue ones—and a striking red twelve. Red is the color of Doctors Without Borders and of international aid. The funds raised by each and every watch can have a significant impact: 100 dollars can provide 17 wool blankets to protect displaced people from the cold, for example, five emer- gency shelters for families uprooted during a crisis, or life-saving treatment for 25 young children suffering from malaria. However, customers pay no more than they normally would for a regular Tangente,

as both NOMOS Glashütte and the retailers are waiving a share of their margin. “We’ll be delighted if a large number of watch en- thusiasts opt for the best of both worlds: to help and, at the same time, enjoy an excellent timepiece,” says NOMOS General Manager Uwe Ahrendt. “Every look at your watch will also remind you of the people around the world in need of help and who just might get it, thanks to you.” nomos-glashuette.com facebook.com/NomosWatches twitter.com/NOMOSGlashuette *
