CALL BACK If you have gone a little way ahead, of me, call back ■—1 ’Twill cheer m y heart and help my feet along the stony track; And if, perchance, Faith’s light is dim, because the oil is low, Your call w ill guide my lagging course as wearily 1 go. Call back, and tell me that H e went with you into the storm; Call back, and say H e kept you when the forest’s roots were torn; That, when the heavens thundered and the earthquake shook the hill, H e bore you up, and held you where the air was still. Oh, friend, call back, and tell me, for I cannot see your face; They say it glows with triumph, and your feet bound in the race; But there are mists between us, and my spirit eyes are dim, And I cannot see the glory, though l long for word from Him. But if you’ll say He heard you when your prayer was but a cry, And if you’ll say He saw you through the night’s sin-darkened sky — If you have gone a little way ahead, O, friend, call back — ’Twill cheer my heart and help m y feet along the stony track. ■—■AUTHOR UNKNOWN

to my new son, “ Did you see the great host of people present the night of the wedding?” And he answered prompt ly, “ I guess I knew they were there, but frankly I didn’t see a soul, only Mary Alice, my bride.” There were many that night who believed in and witnessed the appearing of the lovely bride, but there was one who not only believed and witnessed, but who loved her appearing in a very special way. Now, let us then pray that the King will cause us to love and long for His appearing. Certainly we have every reason to pray “ Thy kingdom come,” and to join with the Psalmist in his soul cry, (Psalm 24, “ Lift up your heads, O ye gates; and be ye lifted up, ye ever lasting doors; and the King of glory shall come in.” Now many there be whose voices reply and ask, “Who is this King of glory?” And the swelling choral answer responds, “ The Lord strong and mighty, the Lord mighty in battle. Lift up your heads, O ye gates; even lift them up, ye everlast ing doors; and the King of glory shall come in.” Less we forget, all this with its incomparable glory and splendor may be much nearer than you and I even dream at this moment. May I therefore ask, Are you ready and will you love His appearing?

about us, let us have confidence for a better day cometh. May God’s Spirit help us to look back to the cross and upward to the throne and forward to His promised return as we hear him say again and again, “Yet a little while, He that cometh shall come and shall not tarry.” Such wonderful truths, however, should not pass without this bit of exhortation and entreaty. It is writ ten, “ Every one that hath this hope set on him purifieth himself even as he is pure.” Let us remember there is always the danger of substituting believing with mere mental assent in the return of Jesus Christ, for the loving of “His appearing.” Now the former stresses the doctrine, while the latter emphasizes the Lord of the doc trine. While sound doctrine certainly is to be desired; notwithstanding one can believe a doctrine as such, with out love. But with love there must be an object, and herein lies the distinc tion with a difference in believing in the second coming as a doctrine and loving “ His appearing.” Let me illus trate what I mean. Once in my life I played the double role of a father who gave away his daughter in mar riage and the minister who performed the ceremony. I shall never forget it, of course. Sometime afterward I said

TEACHER “ G ospel L ight Lessons have truly been an inspiration to me in Sunday school work. The fact that these lessons teach the whole Bible gives the student a very good under standing of Scripture. As Primary superintendent I especially appreciate the closely-graded concept which fits lessons to each age and grade.”
