C O M M E N T A R Y ON THE WHOLE BIBLE By Jamieson, Fausset and Brown

White New Testaments were presented to students of the BIOLA School of Mis­ sionary Medicine during their recent capping service. Presented by the women’s auxiliary of the National Association of Gideons, the handy Bibles will be used by the students in their uniforms while on ward duty. Dr. John L. Jackson, professor of pharmacology on the faculty of the School of Missionary Medicine, was the special speaker at the impressive cere­ monies. Miss Leonie V. Soubirou, direc­ tor of the school, presented the class to Dr. Samuel H. Sutherland, President. * * * * * Special Sunday afternoon services will continue to be held at the BIOLA La Mirada Campus through the next few months. Programs of coming meetings for January and February are now available upon request. Services are also being con­ ducted at 2:30 Sunday afternoons in the downtown Church of the Open Door, Sixth and Hope Streets in Los Angeles. * * * * * Plans for a high school senior students’ briefing conference are now being made by BIOLA and Southern California youth leaders. To be held in the spring, the con­ ference may be repeated during the sum­ mer. * * * * * Phil Kerr, well-known musical evange­ list, will be one of the special speakers for BIOLA Week at Mt. Hermon this coming summer. The dates are August 9 to 16. Also featured will be Dr. Clyde M. Nar- ramore, distinguished Christian psychol­ ogist. Other speakers will be announced in the next few months. One important feature for this year’s conference will be a family emphasis. Special meetings for young people will be conducted during the regular morning meetings for adults. Afternoon recreation programs will also be outlined. In order to reach the goal of occu­ pancy by September, 1959, the dormitory is now well on the way to completion. Ground is expected to be broken for the Library very shortly.

Approximately 150 people are enrolled in the downtown BIOLA Evening School, according to Dr. Chase Sawtell, director of the Correspondence and Evening Schools of the Bible Institute of Los Angeles. Four night schools are also conducted in other areas of the Southland with a combined enrollment of over 325. A new work is expected to begin in Pasadena shortly, with the added possibility of an evening school on the La Mirada Campus. In all of the classes a special emphasis is placed on Christian education with the view of leadership training for the local churches. * * * * * The BIOLA Christian Service Depart­ ment has announced that several outstand­ ing student gospel teams are now avail­ able for meetings in churches. All musical performances are passed by Dr. Paul Wohlgemuth, director of the School of Music. Speakers are likewise passed by faculty members in the speech department. All members of the team are closely re­ viewed by the Spiritual Life Committee of the faculty. The desire of the school is to present a program which will not only be effective to hear, but also Christ-centered throughout. * * * * * With the theme: “ For Such a Time as This,” the annual Torrey Memorial Bible Conference has been scheduled for seven Southern California churches January 24 to February 1. Rev. Thomas Ed Steele, director of extension, has announced that while cooperating churches will be limited this year, it is hoped that many more will be able to have the conference in the future. “We are endeavoring to bring to the churches the very finest of pastors, Bible teachers and evangelists. To bring the very finest Christian leaders to the west coast, we have already begun work on the 1960 conference, although this year’s hasn’t actually started.” Conference brochures are available free upon request.
