ADDICTIONS AND MENTAL HEALTH - O Be on the front line of change by making a lasting impact improving and empowering the lives of those who are affected by addiction and mental health issues. Learn the necessary skills for the job firsthand from experienced professionals who are currently making a difference. After graduation, you'll be equipped to provide life-changing clinical and educational services to a vulnerable segment of your community. Note: This program is also offered part-time (online). Career Opportunities: Community support worker, team leader, housing worker, case manager, clinician, counsellor, crisis worker, addictions counsellor, and mental health worker at community mental health and addictions services, residential treatment centres, hospitals, children’s centres, services for women, services for Indigenous peoples, homeless shelters, youth and family services, ethno-cultural centres, and crisis response services. AUTISM AND BEHAVIOURAL SCIENCE - K Becoming an educational leader in promoting valuable life skills to those with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) can be a very fulfilling career. Guiding autistic learners to master academics and basic life fundamentals such as language, social, self-help, behavioural, and fine motor skills can positively impact individuals and their families for a lifetime. This program combines theory with active learning experiences and enriching field placements. Career Opportunities: Instructor therapist or ABA therapist working 1:1 or in small groups in clinical treatment programs, behaviour therapist and autism specialist in a variety of community settings and school boards.

The A. Britton Smith Centre for Behavioural Studies, located on the Kingston campus, provides a hub for Honours Bachelor of Behavioural Psychology, Behavioural Science, and Autism and Behavioural Science students to work with researchers, faculty, behaviour analysts, and community service providers.

BEHAVIOURAL SCIENCE - K Are you a people person? Do you like research and analysis? Do you find human psychology fascinating? If so, make sure to take advantage of the chance to join this growing job field. Learn the knowledge and skills to develop life-changing interventions and treatment options for groups within a community that have behavioural, emotional, and psychological needs. You’ll benefit from four placement opportunities and graduate with the tools needed to support your clients. Career Opportunities: Work with clients with addictions, autism, intellectual disabilities, and brain injuries, and support child, adolescent, and adult mental health in a variety of settings including employment services, education, corrections/forensics, and long-term care/older adult. CHILD AND YOUTH CARE – K You could create lasting positive impacts in the lives of children and young adults in your community. Stress, loss, poverty, and abuse are just some of the root causes that produce a variety of diagnoses. Therapeutic and trusting relationships dedicated to positively influencing social, emotional, and behavioural outcomes are crucial to healthy youth and adolescent development. With courses specializing in counselling techniques, social activism, and advocacy, this program will serve as a stepping stone to your future. Career Opportunities: Hospitals, children’s mental health centres, family and children’s services, group homes/youth detention centres, specialized educational, programs, schools/ residential treatment centres, street/community work with children/youth, and self-employment initiatives.
