PRE-HEALTH SCIENCES PATHWAY TO CERTIFICATES AND DIPLOMAS - K, C Open the door to future study opportunities in a variety of health science certificate or diploma programs at SLC, including Paramedic, Practical Nursing, Veterinary Assistant, and more. This program will provide a solid base of knowledge and skills to help you reach the next stage of your academic journey. You’ll take courses in subjects like communications, biology, chemistry, math, and computers to help you meet admission requirements for further studies and complement your future career goals. Next Opportunities: Continue your studies in advanced level programs. VETERINARY ASSISTANT – K Gain the theory and skills needed to provide optimum care to animals in need. Learning safe handling and how to perform a number of specialized examinations and treatments are just a few of the ways you’ll help make a difference in the lives of pets and their owners. Some of the main areas of study include animal diseases, care and restraint, grooming, laboratory support, office management, and marketing. Plus, you'll get to help run the Scruffy Dog Salon on campus. Career Opportunities: Veterinary clinics, animal shelters, animal cruelty investigations, pet stores, research colonies, grooming salons, and wildlife facilities, or open your own boarding kennel, dog daycare, or pet sitting service.

VETERINARY TECHNOLOGY – K Providing pets with the attention they need often goes beyond the household. In this program, you’ll learn to assist with the diagnosis and treatment of animal illnesses as you become highly skilled in a biomedical research or veterinary clinic setting. You’ll take courses like biological mathematics, applied biochemistry, microbiology, and more, while gaining the scientific training and laboratory and veterinary technical skills needed for success in the field. Career Opportunities: Veterinary hospitals, veterinary technician colleges, research labs, pharmaceutical and pet food sales, animal shelters, zoos, and wildlife research stations, animal care services, work alongside biomedical researchers, or open your own business.
