The Virginia Union University Chapter, The Alpha Gamma of Kappa Alpha Psi Celebrates 95 Years of Achievement

T he Alpha Gamma Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi, chartered on the historic campus of Virginia Union University in 1927 (E) was honored for its 95 years of achieve- ment during the Universities’ Home- coming Week. “STRONGER TOGETHER” was the theme, which focused around the Alpha Gamma Chapter being supported by a tax-exempt entity formed by former members of the chapter. The vision was conceived during the 90 th anniversary. This year, the Alpha Gamma Interna- tional Alumni Association, Inc. became a reality. Chartered on April 28, 2022 through the Commonwealth of Virginia State Corporation Commission, and this is such a great honor for the chapter as it plans to do great things in the future. Statutes and By-Laws are in place and the very first newly officers were sworn in respectfully: Chairman, Dr. Steven E. Hairston; Vice Chairman, Darron Merritt; Secretary, Herbert J. Dey; Trea- surer, Ricky Sessions, Sr.; Assistant Trea- surer, Michael A. Newsome, and Board of Directors consist of: Corey Colvin, Craig Ester, Joseph B. Hill, Michael A. Newsome, Antony Ghee, Esquire. The main concept of the association is to maintain a professional business savvy mindset that will benefit Virginia Union University. Membership in The Alpha Gamma International Alumni Associa- tion shall be limited only to men who were initiated into the Virginia Union University Chapter, the Alpha Gamma Chapter (E) of Kappa Alpha Psi Fra- ternity, Inc.; and were a member of the fraternity at Virginia Union University, or men who attended Virginia Union University for at least one full aca- demic year and were initiated at another

undergraduate or alumni chapter of the fraternity. Among other anniversary activities, the chapter supported a Black-owned upscale cigar and whiskey lounge called BRUN and endowed the Remember- ing #42 William “Dill” Dillon Athletic Scholarship Fund (Dillon was a Spring 1983 Alpha Gamma initiate). The Alumni Association led by Chairman, Dr. Steven E. Hairston focused on plans for the chapters centennial (2027). There was a Roll

sung at the Kappa plot to cap off the evening. The weekend concluded with a day for worship.

Call by Alpha Gamma Initiation year and an acknowledgement to visiting brothers that attended that weren’t Alpha Gamma initi- ates. It was a joyous occasion dining and discussing business, and after breakfast brothers proceeded to the game and Kappa tailgate, and of course the Kappa Hymn was
